Meet the Doctors
Ben Amini, DDS
Dr. Amini, the founder of CitiDent, completed his undergraduate studies at San Diego State University, and obtained his dental degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of California, San Francisco, UCSF School of dentistry in 1996. He is a member of numerous local, national and international dental organizations and is currently an assistant clinical professor at UCSF, School of Dentistry. Dr. Amini is also a past and current member of numerous local and national study clubs in Implant, cosmetic, laser dentistry and Invisalign. Dr. Amini is certified in laser dentistry and utilizes a state of the art laser technology by Waterlase, which in many procedures minimizes or completely eliminates the usage of dental drill and scalpel.
Dr Amini is one of eight doctors selected for The Align Technology Innovation Leadership Panel in August 2011. This select group of Invisalign doctors advise Align Technology, the manufacturer of Invisalign, on product innovation ideas. These doctors have an exclusive level of access to information about new Invisalign products and services, and are a key source of ideas for new product innovation.
Dr. Amini has an Associate Fellowship status at the World Clinical laser Institute.
Dr. Amini stays abreast with the latest advances in dentistry by regularly attending study clubs, UCSF faculty seminars, and post-graduate continuing education courses in cosmetic, restorative, implant and laser dentistry.
He has attended over 500 hours of continuing education just in the past three years. He has a pre-fellow status at the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and a Sustaining Member at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Dr. Amini’s passion is teaching. He also enjoys cooking, reading, and traveling. He is an advanced scuba diver holding an Advance Open Water PADI certificate. He also holds a patent for a safety device in scuba diving.
Dr. Ritu Sood Disick D.D.S.
Dr. Ritu Sood Disick received her undergraduate B.S. in biology at the University of California, Irvine. Then in 2002 , she graduated from Columbia University’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery with her D.D.S. degree. Dr. Sood completed a one year advanced residency training program at the Palo Alto VA Hospital in 2003. She joined Citident in March of 2004.
Dr. Sood believes that a beautiful smile breeds confidence, health and lifelong happiness. Her goal is to provide each patient with an individualized approach to help meet and maintain their goals for dental health.
“We all have our own unique background as people, and our expectations of what a dentist is to us, as well as reasons why we have loved, or quite possibly hated certain dentist in the past. Effective communication and creating an environment where patients are physically and psychologically comfortable is very satisfying to me personally”.
Dentistry has changed dramatically over the past 10 years and patients now have a variety of treatment choices based on their needs. Dr. Sood’s practice philosophy has always involved making patients aware of the different treatment options available to them so they can make educated decisions about their health.
Personally, Dr. Sood and her husband Dr. Disick(also a dentist) have two sons. They enjoys spending their weekends together going to museums, parks and horsing around with their children. She’s an avid reader, cook and enjoy’s time at the gym to recharge.
Alec J. Temlock, DMD, MS
Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology
Dr. Temlock grew up in Tennessee and attended Vanderbilt University as an undergraduate where he received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. After graduation, he joined a medical research team at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Department of Neurology for several years before moving to New York City to begin career in the pharmaceutical industry. Several years later, Dr. Temlock decided to refocus his career towards patient-oriented outcomes and ultimately attended dental school.
Dr. Temlock graduated Cum Laude from Boston University School of Dental Medicine, receiving his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. At graduation, he was awarded the prestigious American Academy of Periodontology Dental Student Award recognizing his Outstanding Achievement in Periodontics. After completing dental school, Dr. Temlock continued his education as a surgical resident at the University of California, San Francisco, UCSF School of dentistry. After three years of specialty training, he was awarded his Certificate of Residency in Periodontology. While receiving his intense surgical and implant training, he also completed a Masters of Science (MS) degree in Oral and Craniofacial Biology.
Upon completing his surgical residency training, Dr. Temlock pursued Board Certification with the American Board of Periodontology. After two years of intensive written and oral examinations, Dr. Temlock achieved Diplomate status, which is the highest achievement recognized in any specialty.
In addition, Dr. Temlock received an academic appointment at the prestigious University of Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco where he continued to teach the next generation of aspiring dentists and specialists.
Dr. Temlock continues to attend continuing education symposia around the world focusing on implant placement and restorations, advanced surgical techniques and plastic surgery, patient sedation and comfort, and safety precautions among other topics. He strives to educate and inform patients from the very first visit, and his greatest pleasure comes from the smiles when his patients happily complete treatment.
Amanda Cheng, DMD
Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics
Dr. Amanda Cheng obtained her Doctor of Medical Dentistry from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and completed her specialty training in Orthodontics and Craniofacial Orthopedics at the University of Minnesota. In downtown San Francisco, she is 1 of 4 Board Certified Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Cheng’s exceptional skills allowed her to study under some of the world’s best orthodontists at both Harvard and the Mayo Clinic. With her background in fine arts and portraiture, Dr. Cheng enjoys creating beautiful smiles that are in harmony with the unique and specific facial features of each and every one of her patients. Her high esthetic standards allowed her to become a judge for the Miss Asian Global and Miss Asian American Pageant.
Dr. Cheng has treated over one thousand patients and is passionate about technology. She lectures about 3D Printing in orthodontics and focuses on bringing the best care for her patients through advancements in esthetic and accelerated treatments. Her consultations are always a pleasant surprise, where her patients are sometimes amazed that their treatments can be completed in as short as 3 months. With the latest technological advancements in custom arch wires and minimal friction brackets, most treatments can be completed within a couple of months. The archwires used at Citident Orthodontics are made from a “shape memory alloy” adopted from aerospace technology. This wire is activated at your own body heat and “remembers” its desired form to move your teeth according to the treatment plan.
Dr. Cheng has experience with self-ligating Damon brackets, robotics Suresmile technology, clear braces, accelerated osteogenic orthodontics, Invisalign, and Acceledent, which can speed up orthodontic treatment by as much as 50%. During the consultation, Dr. Cheng will evaluate your case and she will decide on the best form of technology to use. She strives to understand the individual needs of each of her patients to provide them with the dream smile that they have always wanted. She enjoys working in a boutique orthodontic practice in downtown San Francisco, where she can provide more doctor time and give quality care to every patient.
Dr. Cheng is passionate about global health and has worked with the Pediatric AIDS Treatment Support (PATS) Project to provide dental care in Anhui China for HIV positive children. She has also done charity dental services for underserved populations in Belize and Brazil. She has focused her research on oral cancer and has presented her findings in Barcelona and was a lecturer at the Beijing School of Stomatology. Having grown up in Beijing, Singapore and Canada she is fluent in both English and Mandarin. Dr. Cheng brings a wealth of knowledge to our practice at 120 Battery Street and is a tremendous asset to our team. Dr. Jennifer Ngo
Native Californian, Dr. Jennifer Ngo was raised in San Jose and studied at The University of Santa Clara, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Her doctorate in Dental Surgery was achieved at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco.
A member of the California Dental Association and the American Dental Association, Dr. Ngo works closely with her patients and maintains outstanding clinical standards to ensure the best treatment possible for everyone she sees. She specifically takes time to discuss treatments with those who are reluctant to visit a dentist and help them overcome anxieties. As she strongly believes that dental care is a vital part of overall healthcare, Dr. Ngo not only treats patients, but aims to educate them on how to clean and maintain their smile at home.
Recognizing that the field of dentistry evolves and advances, Dr. Ngo continues to take courses and learn about new technologies and treatment techniques. She has participated in humanitarian trips to provide healthcare to rural areas in Vietnam, Honduras, and Jamaica, and can also be seen volunteering locally at The Berkeley Free Clinic and San Francisco’s Project Homeless Connect. In her free time she enjoys science fiction, yoga, sculpting, and cooking.
Dr. Jolie Goodman-Leibof
Dr. Jolie Goodman-Leibof began her love for dentistry thirteen years ago at the Berkeley Free Clinic. She is now a graduate of the University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry, and completed her residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Goodman-Leibof firmly believes that the mouth is the gateway to the body, and that good oral care can lead to better overall health. She works with her patients to ensure they understand every detail of a procedure or treatment, so they are able to make educated decisions regarding their dental care. Recognizing her patients as active participants in the process to oral health, she understands that every individual will have different desires, goals, and expectations.
Aware that there is always more to learn, Dr. Goodman-Leibof stays up to date on new technologies and advancements in the field through further education. As an advocate for access to oral healthcare, she volunteers regularly, and has been recognized both locally and nationally for engagement in serving the community.
